Surprise, surprise!!!!!!

Some of the ladies from church and Bible Studies threw me a surprise baby shower. It was indeed a wonderful surprise and I felt showered with love, support and blessings from above. Many of these ladies have been praying for our baby and I feel blessed to have so many "mommies" around me when Glynn and I are so far from family. God always provides us with all we need.

Ronnellie was the chief planner and although not featured in the photographs, I want to thank Debbie, Elizabeth Muller, Mwaemurei and Elizabeth Ewing too.

Ladies, I had a great time!!!!

Glynn, I and Baby Langford thank you!!!!!

Our visit to the hospital

Baby and I did an overnight stay at St. Luc Hospital on Wednesday.

They did another control test due to the gestational diabetes. The good news is that I'm not required to take insulin, but will continue to keep control of the blood sugar levels by watching my diet. I'm very thankful for this!!!

Baby was monitored which is always a great joy as I get to hear his/her heartbeat and I get to see our little one when they do the sonogram. The news is good, Baby Langford is growing well, they checked the health of the placenta and the blood flowing around the brain and all reports were very good!!

All praise goes to God for a great medical team and the good health of Baby and Mama!!!!!!

Christmas in Belgium

Grand Place at night
The creche

Ice-skating and chalets on the left where lots of goodies are sold

Glynn and I decided to spend our holidays in Belgium this year.

With baby's imminent arrival and not wishing to be far from home, we felt it would be a good idea to spend the time resting and relaxing..................the calm before the storm...........

Here are some pictures taken at Brussels Christmas market and Grand Place.

The men

Our good friends Francois and Ronnellie invited us for lunch on Christmas Day. Ronnellie is an excellent cook and all I was required to do, was to roast some potatoes. We had a grand meal which included goose stuffed with chestnuts and quince!!

Thanks Francois and Ronnellie!

Update on Mama and Baby

Well, so much has happened since I last wrote.

I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I spent a couple of days in hospital while they did some testing and I'm due for another short visit next week. I'm so happy with the medical care we're getting in Belgium. We're being monitored very, very closely. I now have to take my blood sugar levels 6 times a day and I've had to change my diet. No more sugary goodies for me. I'm working hard to keep my levels to where they need to be. They'll let me know next week whether I have to take insulin or not. Of course, I do not want to.

I wondered where I'd gone wrong as I'm not a sugar-tooth. Well, now I know that it's because I'm not producing enough insulin and the insulin that is being produced is not working effectively to get into the cells to convert it into energy. Instead, it's sitting in the blood which is not good.

Baby's being monitored closely. I'll have a sonogram every alternate week when I visit doc. They'll be keeping an eye on baby's size and the health of the placenta. Now, it all makes sense why I'm carrying so beautifully!!!!! Baby is big and mama is now 62.5 kg. Doc said he may be delivering baby a week or too early depending on baby's size and the health of the placenta. Glynn became very excited when he heard he might be seeing his Angel sooner than expected!

Our baby is doing great!! He/she loves playing and moving about and we are in awe of baby's response to our touch. We thank God for His miracle!!
